5 Items To Turn Your Lexus GS 350 Into A Camping Vehicle

Blog

When you purchase your Lexus GS 350, camping or outdoor sports may not be first on your mind. The Lexus GS 350 is a mid-range luxury car that spans the gap between sport and luxury. But that doesn't mean it can't handle a little dirt and a weekend camping. However, there are some extra features you may want to fit your Lexus GS 350 with if you intend to use it for camping or other outdoor activities.

A Trailer Hitch

Most sedans are not known for their towing capability. But the Lexus GS 350 is rated to be a towing vehicle. Depending on the year and specific model you own, your towing capacity may range from around 2,500 pounds to 3,500 pounds. This will allow you to pull small boats, jet skis, a cargo trailer, or even a small caravan. But to make use of the towing capabilities of your vehicle, you will need an appropriate trailer hitch. Make sure to buy one made for your year and model, as the location of the exhaust pipe differs on some of the models and can interfere with some trailer hitches.

A Roof Rack

While the GS 350 has a roomy interior, taking up unnecessary space in the seating area can make you and your passengers feel cramped and uncomfortable. To make sure you can get your gear, along with your friends' gear, to your campsite, consider adding a roof rack to your car. Roof racks are easy to install on most years of the GS 350, and with the roof rack accessories available, you can transport bikes, gear, or even a pop-up tent on top of your vehicle.

Since the GS 350 is a low sedan, you won't have problems reaching the roof rack like you would on an SUV or van.

Extra Floor Mats and Seat Covers

While the GS 350 is capable of handling well in dirty situations, it is still a luxury vehicle. Because of this, you may want to get an extra set of floor mats and seat covers specifically for when you plan to take your vehicle camping. This way, you won't have to worry about all of the grime and dirt you collect during your trip. When you return to the city, you can pop in your usual floor mats and clean up your camping mats and seat covers for the next time you need them.

Cargo Liners

Similar to your floor mats and seat covers, cargo liners can be a good way to keep the trunk of your car clean even when you are camping. A durable liner can also prevent rips and tears to your cargo space by items such as stray tent pegs or knives.

Off-Road Tires

If you plan on rugged camping, you will need tires that can take you to your destination and bring you back safely. A good set of all terrain tires will not only handle the bumps of a dirt road, but they will also improve your fuel economy and reduce the noise you experience inside the cabin of the vehicle when you are on unpaved roads. Even if you only plan on short off-road jaunts, the appropriate tire will improve your experience and let you make the most of your GS 350.

While you might not think of the Lexus GS 350 as a camping vehicle when you first see it, you may be surprised at how adaptable it can be when outfitted with the appropriate accessories. Camping, boating, hiking, or winter sports can all be within your reach with the proper planning and a few extra purchases.
